Wrestling with the decision of whether or not to buy a domain.
I need something that makes my site about me, that doesn’t limit my creativity or my ability to express my meaning.
I originally called my site And Then Some, but though it communicated something of what I wished to communicate, it did not communicate it all. What about my love of technology? Or designing things? Or typography? Or deep and challenging conversations? Of understanding things?
So I chose a name which encompasses all of these things. And it is as simple as my name.
Would love to have adamsharp.com, but I’m quite content to go with adamsharp.com.au.
Seeing a site like this, I’m inspired with a vision of what my site could be.
And with a little input from one of my partners in crime, and some assertive Facebooking, hopefully this small step toward the vision will come to pass.
EDIT (July 14, 2009): Well, I’ve done it! Registered me a domain name with these guys for a measly 25 bucks, and I’m all set to get up and running on adam-sharp.net. The .com thing didn’t work out, but that’s ok—I met a nice guy with the same name as me in the process.
EDIT (July 20, 2009): And now you can see the results of the hard work: adam-sharp.net is born. Thanks again to Luke Stephens for the web space! Unfortunately adamsharp.com.au was not possible (or for that matter anything useful in the .au TLD), because I don’t have a registered ABN (Australian Business Number). I could have gone for .id.au, specifically intended for personal websites, but who’s going to remember that? So the much nicer (much cheaper) .net won out.
